SELF PORTRAIT
Within this work the artist attempts to create a cycle of self portraits and investigate the nature of constructing identity. She begins naked, leaving her race and sex as the only indicators of her identity. Using a semiological approach, she gathers items from a bag and begins to tie them around her face, beginning the construction of her gender until you can no longer see her face or head.
The performance is recorded and projected behind her. As the camera can see the projection a loop of several versions are created. At any time she is creating and recreating multipleversions of herself.
